This is probably the most frequently asked question in the homeopathic community groups regarding skin.

Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine which has a holistic approach and although in some cases, appreciates the end result or diagnosis, the relevance is that the condition is due to some disturbance in the function of body. In homeopathy, we address the person who is suffering from a condition, rather than the condition the person is suffering from. In other words, we need to get the totality of the symptoms that the patient is expressing and matching them with the symptoms the remedy can cause.

And how do we accomplish that?

We allow patients time, letting them sit through 90 minutes to 2 hours homeopathic consultation when their medical doctors haven’t got 10 minutes to spare, constantly looking at their computers, without listening to the patient before writing up another prescription.

  • We make people think about possible causes, and wonder if there is a reason for their illness.
  • We allow our patients to question us.
  • We make them think about their lifestyle choices.
  • We make them feel responsible for their health, and we make them feel empowered.
  • We make them have respect for themselves again.
  • We teach them how to listen to their bodies, pay attention to the signs, join the dots and avoid the triggers.
  • We make them research, research and research some more.
  • We make them understand that all their emotions and pain are real.
  • In many different ways they are encouraged to use their own given brain, not the brain of a person in a white coat.
  • We allow them to realise how unique they are, preserving their dignity.
  • We make our consultation rooms a place where patients feel safe.
  • We help them understand how their body works, why dis-ease occurs and how homeopathy works and how it can help them to reach optimum health again.

Homeopaths address man as a whole, as opposed to the view of the patient as a fragmented diagnostic entity (separated into parts, each carrying a specific ailment or diagnostic category). Patients cannot be viewed in fragments without violating fundamental and universal laws of nature. Each person is a unique individual, whole and complete, functioning as a totality in relation to the surrounding universe. Laws governing nature and the universe are not separate to those governing the functions of living organisms.

The eczema can be due to gut health, hereditary, allergies, vaccines, infections, toxicology, trauma, etc.  It is important for us, to look at what is affected and why the patient has landed in this diagnosis.

Having said that, this applies not only to skin but also to any other chronic condition.

The unbalance is deep rooted in the system and we need the full case (character, history, mental/emotional symptoms, general symptoms, desires, aversions, physical symptoms etc,) in order to find a remedy which will address the root of the problem.

It is also crucial to understand, that in homeopathy there are no specific remedies for specific conditions. For example, in the context of skin, the same remedy can address acne in one patient, eczema in another, psoriasis in another etc. And again, in the context of the gut the same remedy, can heal chronic diarrhoea in one patient and chronic constipation in another, as long as the totality of the symptoms of the patient match the symptoms that can be elicited by the remedy.

In Homeopathy “it is more important to know the person who has the condition, than it is to know the condition the person has “and this was stated by Hippocrates consider the father of modern medicine.

Common symptoms like the fever, redness of the throat, swollen glands, cough, chills, etc. are also taken into account, but these are of least importance. They are only the result of disease! Under these common rubrics we have listed more than 100 different remedies bringing up the same symptoms. Only by considering the totality of all the symptoms, will the homeopath be able to prescribe the correct remedy. In other words, based upon the Nature of the disease and not on the Name of the disease. This applies to people and animals. Example of a case study below:

Consequently, homeopaths, have the capability to address any kind of condition, as they focus on the person who has the disease, and not on the other way around. Therefore, we are not really specialists on any particular condition. As long as we are able to understand the patient on their totality and find a good matching remedy.

There are many ways that homeopathy can be used to address mental and emotional conditions which arise from the causations mentioned or traumatic life events.
