ECZEMA AND HOMEOPATHY

Eczema and Homeopathy

There is no main Known cause for eczema, but by now it is well established, that there might be a few known contributing factors…

Eczema

Many people wonder if the condition is hereditary, or passed along by genes in the families.

Researchers are still do not know exactly what causes eczema. The condition is likely caused by a combination of several environmental factors and genetic predisposition, that promotes the skin to become more sensitive.

Chronic eczema, also known by Atopic Dermatitis, is associated with certain genes. However, important to notice that having these genes does not necessarily mean that you will develop eczema. The presence of these genes seems to increase the predisposition to the condition, but its presence in itself, doesn’t necessarily imply you will suffer from the condition, in other words, by itself is not necessarily a causation, as there are many people with these genes that never had and never will suffer from eczema.

For example, there are many cases of twins which both have the presence of the genes, but only one develops eczema while the other doesn’t. While genetics make up a significant portion of susceptibility to eczema, this finding suggests that there are other factors, including environmental which are also key in the condition’s development.

Nevertheless, despite of the above, atopic dermatitis tends to run in families with a history of the condition. In fact, childhood eczema is two to three times higher in children whose mother or father has a history of eczema. This is a very important aspect to consider, during Case Taking in a homeopathic consultation. The family history of the patient is always also taken into account.

Eczema also tends to occur in families with a history of other atopic (allergy-related) conditions, such as asthma, hay fever, and food or environmental allergies (such as to pollen and pet hair). Approximately 70% of people living with atopic dermatitis have a family history of atopic conditions. About 30% of people diagnosed with atopic dermatitis also have food allergies. The risk of developing atopic dermatitis increases if both parents have atopic conditions. Because asthma, atopic dermatitis, and seasonal allergies often occur together, they are known as the atopic triad, or concomitants in Homeopathy.

It is well established that the mental/emotional state of the child or of the pregnant mother is very important to help with the search of the most suitable prescription. Therefore, lets analyse the symbolic meaning of Eczema.

According to Didier Grandgeorge Eczema – ex- aima in French, meaning the one that used to love. The patient can note cope with a break from someone they were very close to and loved very much, which comes back to the love of mother and child. Also, families where there is a history of breakdowns: departures, divorces, double lives etc.

Homeopathy offers a very natural solution for eczema cases.

Homeopathy addresses eczema in two phases:

In the first phase, the medicines with time start to control the itching; in the second phase, they reduce inflammation and promote the healing of the lesions, as well as controlling the progression of eczema.

By reducing inflammation, the redness and scaliness or thickness of the skin also starts to improve. They work effectively to stimulate the immune system to heal the cracks in the skin when present.

In addition, by effectively helping to reduce the itching, the are implicitly also reducing the risk of infection of the skin from excessive scratching.

Due to the nature and mode of preparation of homeopathic remedies, which are made from natural occurring substances, they are non-toxic, devoid of side effects and/or risk of iatrogenic diseases.

Over years of clinical experience, Homeopathy offers indeed one of the best natural and safe approaches to this debilitating condition.
